Precision Rifle Challenge

Texarkana Gun Club Precision Rifle Challenge
Match Details

The TGC Precision Rifle Challenge is held periodically throughout the year at the TGC 600 yard rifle range. The match is a practical rifle match designed loosely around the Precision Rifle Series (PRS) style of rifle shooting, which aims to test the shooter’s skill as well as equipment. Targets are typically steel targets from 1-3 MOA in size at various distances out to 600 yards. Some shots will be taken from stable shooting positions such as from a bench or the prone position, while others are taken from “field style” positions from various types of obstacles. This serves to test the shooter’s ability to handle a rifle in situations that may be encountered in the hunting field, or other practical scenarios.

Participants will need a rifle capable of 1 MOA or better out to 600 yards in a calibre not to exceed 30, with a muzzle velocity no greater than 3200 fps. Typical calibers used in these matches are 308 Winchester, 260 Remington, 6.5 Creedmoor, 243 Winchester, 223 Remington, 6.5×47 Lapua, and other similar cartridges. You will also need a scope that is easily adjustable to shoot at different ranges and drop data out to 600 yards. We welcome people with entry-level hunting rifles, all the way up to full up custom match rifles. The round count for a match is typically 30-50 rounds. A detachable magazine is beneficial as some stages may require up to 10 shots, but shooters can also be successful with an internal box type magazine. A bipod is recommended, and some shooters use some type of sandbag or other support bags to aid in positional shooting.

The match is friendly to shooters of all abilities, skill levels, and ages. We welcome everyone to come out and shoot with us, regardless of what type of equipment you have or your experience level. We encourage new shooters to come and participate. We try to design each match so that everyone is able to bang some steel! There is no shortage of people that are willing to teach and help.

We hope to see you there!
